This spot in the far north of Queensland is about as idylic as it gets. The
drive from Cairns to Port Douglas is approx. 70 kms. of absolute scenic beauty.
A large part of the drive is overlooking the ocean and you will enjoy it immensely .
Snorkelling in this area is magnificent. Visiting the outer reef is probably the trip that most people will embark on
during their stay in Port Douglas, but there are a few notable attractions
within the town that are well worth seeing.
Ben Cropp's Shipwreck Museum is an interesting site to visit on the
waterfront.I wandered around to escape from a shopping expedition with
Liz.Seems kind of strange to encounter a lifebelt from the Titanic!!
You can spend a relaxing couple of hours with the crew aboard the Lady
Douglas,a paddlewheeler,as she meanders up Dickson's Inlet.Nice to see the
crocodiles from the safety of a large boat.
The Sheraton Mirage has a lovely golfcourse, but I wasn't too keen on one hole in particular where
a sign makes you aware that crocs quite often pop out of the creek and laze on
the green in the sun!! I think visitors are given a discount if they lose a leg.
We enjoyed the
Rainforest Habitat,
and the ride on the Ballyhooly Cane Train.
