Brisbane.
the 'Gateway to the Tropics'

It was a beautiful warm sunny day in midwinter?, as
we climbed, tired and clammy into the back of a
Brisbane cab, reg. no. (well no, we won't go into that)
waiting in line outside the Arrivals building at
Brisbane Airport.
The first day of a new life had just begun.

I asked the cabbie to take us to the City and a
good and reasonably priced hotel.
Two hours later ,after a shower and jetlagged to hell,
I decided to leave Karin and Liz in the room to sleep,
whilst I explored my surrounds.

Spotting a staff member of the hotel, I asked
her to direct me to the nearest bar.
To my shock and horror,I was informed that
'The Canberra' was a temperance hotel !!.
If the cabbie is reading this,I'm still looking
for you xxxxxxx MATE!!
Nearly 20 years on and that first disappointment
is still the only one.
