WOODLAND & BRUSH FIRES


 

Wild Land Fire- August 2001
[Woodland 1] [Woodland 2] [Woodland 3] [Woodland 4]  
The cause of this great fire is unknown. It started on the Ware/Charlton line and burned for 4 days until it hit a area of swamp water. Fire Departments on scene were, Folkston Division, Racepond Division, Winoker Division, Ware Co., Brantley Co. and Georgia Forestry.

Brush Fire - March 07, 2002
[Brush 1] [Brush 2] 
Folkston Division was toned to control burn that jumped the dirt road and caught on fire on the other side. Firefighters were able to extinguish this fire in a matter of mintues. Georgia Forestry Units and were able to stop the spread of the fire.

Timberland Fire - March 11, 2002
[30 Acre] [30 Acre 2] [30 Acre 3] [30 Acre 4]    
Folkston Division was toned to brush fire off of Paxton Rd. A homeowner was burning yard waste and due to high winds the fire soon spread. 4 homes were danger and 2 were evacuated. Firefighters from Folkston Division and Racepond were able to save all 4 homes. Fire spread was 30 acres of prime Timber Land.

Hwy 301 - March 12, 2002
[Hwy 1] [Hwy 2] [Hwy 3] [Hwy 4]   
Folkston Division was toned for a brush fire along the over pass leading out of Folkston/Homeland. Found 3 different small fires that had been started along the Hwy. Fires was started from a truck towing a BBQ grill with hot coals still inside.

 

Mizell Street Wildland Fire - April 24, 2002
[10 Acre] [10 Acre 2] [10 Acre 3]
This wildland fire started when a area used to grow pine trees for mulch, pulp wood was cleared a few days before hand, and the owner wanted to burn off the waste left behind. With winds blowing at 11 mph, the fire soon spread out of control. Three homes were in danger, and firefighters from Folkston Division were set up to protect them from being destroyed. While at the fire, a baby male deer only 3 days old was abandon by its mother and was found by GA Forestry Unit and turned over to Firefighter Dixie Kirton.
