Two girls mourn the deaths of their friends after the Russian school seige as Beslan in September 2004. As they comfort each other in the burnt out ruins of their school gymnasium, their compassion seems to offer hope, like a phoenix rising from the ashes. (The phoenix is an ancient symbol for resurrection.)
