Activity 8
Loneliness
Have you ever felt lonely?  Maybe, your best friend was absent and you didn't have anyone to climb the monkey bars with?  Maybe, your teacher made you sit next to a boy instead of your pal during lunch and you couldn't talk?  Did you survive this loneliness?  Did something positive come from this?  Maybe your formed a new friendship with someone else because your friend was gone.

Wilbur felt alone when he went to live on the farm.  He missed Fern until he found Charlotte.
In this activity, write a letter to Wilbur giving him advice about his loneliness.  Point out the positive things that he has to look forward to like making new friends on the farm.  Tell  him activities that he can do to pass the time so he isn't lonely.

To complete this activity, log on to your computer and write your letter in a word processor.  When you are finished print it out and put it in your unit folder.

You might also want to draw a picture of somethings Wilbur can do to pass the time.  To do this, use the paint program on your computer.

Share your advice with your new epal.  Ask them what advice they would have for Wilbur.  Document their advice and place it in your folder.
