| Revolva Glitter interview, summer 1998 Revolva are Bruce (vocals), Lloyd (guitars), Greg (bass) and Robbie (drums). They are 25 years old and come from Bridgend, South Wales. Their debut album Artificial Buzzes was released on August 1st and it's well excellent. Bruce says he's always been interested in music. "I've got photographs of myself aged about two with a microphone in my hand!" Lloyd used to stand in front of the mirror and sing into the hoover. "It's in your soul y'know?" According to the band they're all lovely church goers. "But we like having our eyeballs licked!" says Bruce, who looks like a fighter but in a nice way, if you know what I mean. Revolva have supported Stereophonics, The Manics, 60ft Dolls and they're well known for their impressive live performances. "Is it a disadvantage being a Welsh band who sing in English, considering that channels like S4C seem to concentrate on the ones that sing in Welsh on programmes like Garej?" "No, not the way things are going. We have played on Heno where we sang in English. People appreciate good music whether it's in Welsh or English I think. Thanks to Catatonia, Stereophonics and the Manics other bands have been given the chance, we don't feel ostracized from the Welsh speaking bands that do well", says Bruce. "Is image important?" "When you first start out you've got to look confident, look part of the band 'cos record companies think it's important. But no, not really." "Who do you regard as cool?" "Robert De Niro, Richard Ashcroft and Thom Yorke!" "What makes you happy?" "Pornography, nothing else, he he." |
| Bruce looked up to Jimmy Page and David Coverdale when he was at school. He loved Hysteria by Def Leppard and Kasmir by Led Zeppelin and tried to copy their singing. Rob was into Stone Roses and played She bangs the drum and I am the resurrection over and over in his bedroom. His first gig was the La's, supported by the Milltown Brothers at Cardiff uni. "Do you believe in a Welsh parliament?" "No, not really. I haven't really looked into it, to be honest", says Bruce. All of the boys went to the same school and fancied the same girls for ages. Rob once broke into their junior school and claims to have a massive pornography collection. He supported Brazil in the World cup and was gutted when they lost. He's also an avid Man united supporter. "What do you always carry with you?" "A picture of my mother." "Yeah?" "It's true and all!" "Bruce, what did you dream last night?" "I dreamt that I was just about to hit the floor and then I woke up!" "I can't remember what I dreamt, but I probably dreamt about being a pop star. I often do", says Rob. Revolva are playing a venue near you soon. Don't miss out on the fun! |
