| Tell us a little about yourself! My name is Huw Stephens, I�m 17, come from Cardiff and I�m doing my a-levels. PICNIC formed last May in the glorious heat of the Cardiff sunshine. There are four of us in the band, two boys and two girls. Why did you form a band? Basically it�s a moneymaking scam, no, we want to add something to the music of Wales and we�re honoured to be part of it. Is there such a thing as a Welsh scene? If I was English I would be jealous of the Welsh, but I�m not sure that the scene actually exists. The media celebrated the �birth� of the Welsh scene but I very much doubt that the �death� of it will make it to the front page of Melody Maker. Having said that, there�s numerous bands that are very, very good and I love Gorky�s to bits. Who do you regard as cool? Jack Daniels, Neil of Divine Comedy, Dewi Sant, anyone who stands up for what they believe in a cool positive way. What makes you happy? Things that make me laugh, things that other people don�t find very funny, angry teachers, good things that have happened. Like waking up the morning after a really good gig and still feel enormously happy. What do you dream about? When I wake up I can only remember a snip of the dream, but I dream about life and sometimes about meeting people I really admire. Who did you admire as a kid? My family, my three older sisters �cos they looked after me, my parents. Name two records that changed your life! Divine Comedy Casanova and Gorky�s Zygotic Mynci Tatay, I love Kevin Ayers. First ever gig? Bon Jovi in Cardiff Arms Park and I really enjoyed myself. First record you went and bought for yourself? Crowded House Together Alone. Ever been involved in the making of a fanzine? Only through doing interviews, but I wrote a review of the Bon Jovi gig! Any future plans? We�re releasing an album in May �98. But I suppose being healthier and give my cousin Gruff Meredith a good bashing, hehe! PICNIC are: Huw Stephens, Rhys Bishop, Catherine Davids and Kate Auchterlonie.
