| Nosy questions: Ruairi McLaren of Hollecropper Glitter interview, spring 1998 Glitter: Tell us a little about the band! Ruairi: Hollecropper was formed two years ago, at the time named Empire. Our first gig was Llandovery school. Glitter: What do you sing about? Ruairi: Everything babe, anything and everything! Glitter: What are your influences? Ruairi: I can�t speak for the rest of the band, but my influences are The Beatles, David Bowie, Beach Boys, Oasis, The Beatles, The Beatles and The Beatles. Oh, and Burt Bacharach. Glitter: Is image important? Ruairi: Not if the music�s brilliant, I think. Glitter: Do you speak Welsh? Ruairi: No, I don�t speak Welsh and I wouldn�t sing in Welsh. Glitter: Who do you regard as cool? Ruairi: Who�s cool�erm�on this earth, Robert Carlyle, Ewan McGregor, Noel Gallagher, Richard from Richard and Judy, my dad. Glitter: What makes you happy? Ruairi: Marlboro�s, Stella Artois, Liverpool beating Man United, Playing guitar, playing guitar in front of many people who know the words to my songs, beautiful intelligent girls, watching TV, reading about John Lennon, Listening to Beatles records, having sex, having a cuddle, sleeping, waking up in the morning thinking I�ve got college and then remembering it�s Saturday, Match of the Day, stealing pick n� mix from Woolworth�s, talking to myself. Glitter: What do you dream about? Ruairi: I dream about the moon � and you sometimes. Glitter: Who did you admire as a kid? Ruairi: As a kid I thought John Barnes was king, then I discovered that he�s just a footballer. Glitter: Name three records that changed your life! Ruairi: The three records that have affected me the most are �Rubber Soul� by The Beatles, �Definitely Maybe� by Oasis and �Living Doll� by Cliff Richard and the Young Ones. Glitter: First gig? Ruairi: I believe my first gig was Genesis in Carlisle with my dad. I was about five. Glitter: Any future plans we should know about? Ruairi: I plan to write some of the greatest songs ever and for Hollecropper to be a success. I also plan to find a girlfriend and a nice new jumper.
