Where's Welsh music heading? Phil: Welsh music is heading in so many different direction it is hard to say. I think we just want it to get back to the days when welsh bands rocked. Politics. Tremendously boring or extremely important? Alex: I'd have to say important cause my dad stood for Swansea West in the general election for the lib dems. I think it gives us all a little say in how our country is run. Dave: it is the most important decision making process, and affects everyone. I find it shocking that we live in age where only half the population can be bothered to vote, when many of these voters were either in the war, or who had a parent involved in it just to guarantee such a vote is able to take place. If the people think that they cannot make a difference, then politics democracy must be in a sorry state of affairs at present. Andrew: Extremely important and very entertaining!! "Can anyone make a difference anymore. Can anyone write a protest song." Discuss! Phil: Of course you can write a protest song, the problem comes when your protest song makes record companies and artists millions of dollars and all of a sudden the musicians dont wanna protest any more. Who do you admire? Alex: I admire people who believe in things and do things and don't care what people think about them. Dave: People who have the balls to get up and do something they believe in, not just because all their friends believe it. People who embrace their individuality. Phil: I agree. Andrew: I admire Dave Grohl a great deal. He formed a band after the end of a very good band and made them huge. He is also very talented and even though he is one of the best drummers in the world he doesnt need to drum. Are we living in a dis-United Kingdom? Discuss! Dave: Well we live in a time where nationality is starting to grow again, with various political power (or not as the case may be) being handed to each individual country. As power becomes decentralised from Westminster, people are bound to feel less affinity with the United Kingdom as a whole, as they are doing. However i think that there will never be a break up of the United Kingdom, as I think people realise there are some problems best solved working together.
What's your view on Welsh culture? Andrew: I think Welsh people are all very proud to be Welsh and the culture is very important to everyone in Wales which alot of countries don't have. Dave: Culture is a main part of any society, it helps define ones identity. An identity is pinnacle to the development of the individual. Favourite song(s) of all time? Dave: Scatman - Scatman John. Just kidding! I wouldnt like to say, as like music from so many different genres of music. If you want Ill list a favourite song for each genre! Alex: You Really Got me - The Kinks, Local Boy in the Photograph - Stereophonics, Under the Bridge - Chili's, The Riverboat Song - Ocean Colour Scene Phil: Guns N Roses - Bad Obsession Anything else you'd like to add? Phil: Yeah - we just wanna make the best music we can - thats our philosophy.
Is television the drug of the nation? Dave: Television is a very useful tool. However it is misused for political and more so monetary gain. I would like to see less adverts on tv, and more time devoted to educating people, whether it be by having more news, or more factual programs. With more knowledge of any given topic, it is more likely that people will make a better decision about that topic, which tends to benefit them and others Whose records do you feel like burning? Alex: All this teenie-pop crap our nations charts are being over-run by. ESPECIALLY a1. Dave: Any band who lets the motivation of more money comes above that of the motivation to make music in the first place. First musical memory? Dave: Playing one of those baby xylophones :) Alex: My mum was a bit of a Cliff Richards fan and I remember sitting down watching her video's of him singing along - I know all the words!!!!! I am soooooo cool. Dave: We are now looking for a new vocalist, with Alex leaving the band. The band have cited "musical differences" as the reason for his leaving :) Phil: Playing guitar in front of the school when I was about 6 and just playing the smae chord over and over while staring at the crowd Andrew: Buying rock around the clock by (I dont know) on vinyl and breaking it trying to play it. Dave: Oh, and we are looking for a new drummer ;) Wales vs. London? Dave: Welsh people, London amenities. Alex: Wales 1 London 0 Do you feel that there's a divide between Welsh speakers and non-Welsh speakers? Dave: I think there is a divide between south Wales, and the rest of Wales, it just happens that south Wales speaks English predominantly, and the rest of Wales is more welsh speaking, this divide is not down to language, but I believe more so due to the economic differences between the industrialised south (more so the south east) and the rest of the country. Phil: I would disagree on that one - lots of south Wales farming communities speak Welsh. Llanelli is more or less Welsh speaking Andrew: I think English speakers are put off by Welsh speakers i think but the divide is only in peoples heads.
