Part One:
The road to war, 1850 - 1914
The seven chapters of this part of the Web site outline the major events in the build-up to World War One. It is not a comprehensive history of the war and its causes, but an outline of events, intended to provide a glimpse of the world that the Woods lived and died in. Where appropriate, the historical narrative is supplemented by a brief timeline, highlighting significant events in the Woods' lives.
