Sweet Memories
Litha Spurlock Hooker, me, and Floyd Hooker
My Grandparents
My grandmother, Litha Spurlock Hooker, was one of the sweetest people that I have ever known. She never had a harsh word for anyone, and she was so loving and gentle and kind. When I was a little girl, we would go to visit her at her house in Bell County, Ky., and I loved going there. She would always give me hugs and kisses and tell me how pretty I was. Even after I grew up and got married, she always hugged me and kissed me and told me how pretty I was and that she loved me.
Every time that we would go to see her. she would fix something for me to eat. Usually she would make some fried bread for me and some white syrup to go with it. It was so good. She was very poor, so she got commodity foods from the government, and I loved the commodity cheese.
The last time that I saw my grandmother was a couple of months before she passed away. She was in the hospital because she was very sick with diabetes and other health problems, also. My daughter, Beth, and I went to see her in Pineville, Ky., from here in Lima, Ohio.
She was the same sweet person that she had always been, even though she was so sick. She loved the Lord very much, and lived her life for Him. While we were in her room visiting her, she told Beth and I to always live our lives for the Lord. We told her that we would. She passed away in March of 1997. I love her and miss her very much. I hope that I can live up to what I promised her. I wish that she could have seen my grandchildren. I know that she would have loved them so much.
