State of Our Nation

As another Christmas Day is approaching,

I sit and ponder the very sad state of things,

In this, the great United States of America,

Which once was the most powerful nation on Earth!

Thanksgiving Day will be here this week,

And already there are so many changes in how we speak!

We must not say Merry Christmas, the store owners say,

Instead everyone must say to each other, Happy Holidays!

The government tells us, no Nativity scenes shall there be,

Instead there will be Santa and snowmen for us to see!

Pretty baubles, and boxes with bright paper and bows,

Lights and garland, you can be sure you'll see those!

Money flowing from hand to hand in the stores,

What would they do if the people said, No more!

How would they pay their own bills,

While the drop in spending was felt in all of their tills!

Heaven forbid that we should be bright and full of cheer,

And say Merry Christmas to a fellow customer who is near!

We definitely must not say Merry Christmas to the cashier,

For those words might offend someone's ears!

How very sad this is, the state of our nation,

And no one seems willing to take on the opposition!

So we sit quietly by, and lament on the way things are,

But yet how many of us are willing to grab hold of the bar?

And so we must pray and pray and spread the word all over,

Or soon we will not have "In God we Trust", on our dollars!

We must stop all this now or our nation will be great no more,

Instead we will be like so many other countries, broken and poor!
