Memories
My dearest children, how much I love you,
No matter what you ever may do!
I remember your growing up years,
All of your triumphs and all of your tears!
I remember your sweet little faces,
Your smiles and giggles, and even your untied shoe laces!
I remember teaching you how to talk,
Soon there you were, learning how to walk!
I remember your kisses and hugs,
And in the evenings, catching lightening bugs!
I remember your first days of school,
And playing in the backyard in your little kiddie pool!
I remember walks in the park
And fishing together after dark!
I remember trips to the hospital when you were ill,
And praying that soon you would be well!
I remember summer picnics and walks along the beach,
Sand all over and the dog on the leash!
I remember soccer balls and softball games,
And then suddenly there were your graduation days!
I remember phone calls for help in the night,
And so many times I was praying for your safety till daylight!
I remember your wedding days, full of love,
And how much I wished for you blessings from God above!
I remember the days your own babies were born,
And how much joy they all have brought!
I remember trying to be there for you always,
Through happy times and especially sad days!
Then somehow things have slowly evolved,
And I might need your help to get a problem solved!
So many times now I sit and wonder,
Why you don't call me and then I ponder,
Have I said something that upset you?
Or is it that you just don't want to?
Then there are times when we are together in the same room,
And the silence sometimes feels just like a tomb!
Life is oh so short and fleeting,
Just like a flash of lightening!
So many times I yearn for my own mother and Aunt Aileen,
My father, and uncles, and grandfather, and Grandmother Litha.
What I wouldn't give for just one more day with them,
To hear their voices and to feel their loving embrace!
So please, my children, remember my words,
Because we never know when we will be called Home by the Lord!
