Illusions of Love

So often we fall in love,

Thinking that "This is it",

When it is just an illusion,

Being fooled by pretty words,

And tender touches,

Lulled into a false sense of comfort and security,

Thinking that things are just wonderful,

And they are, just for a little while,

Then the wolf in sheep’s clothing emerges,

And reality sets in,

Oh, what a shock!

Broken hearts then follow,

Time to pick up the pieces,

Of shattered dreams and go on,

Never to be the same again.

We must learn from these mistakes,

And be stronger than ever before,

Not to be bitter and vengeful,

But just to be a little more careful,

About to whom we give our hearts,

We must forgive ourselves,

Taking one day at a time,

And we must somehow learn to love once again,

For without love, what is life?
