Charles and Linda Michalak
are our names; Pygmy Goats are our game.
It all began 16 years ago in
1993 when we moved to Alvin (25 miles south of Houston), Texas from the
city life of southern California. The only animals we had were three
cats, but that . . .
would soon change.
While in a local pet shop, I saw the cutest dog, he was free but the
fence we would build for him cost $3600. After a couple of months we
decided he needed a companion and we had seen this ad in the newspaper
about Pygmy goats. Small, cute, friendly and more fun than a dog. Heeem!
Enter Nannette. Nannette was a non-registered pygmy goat, fun, smart,
mischievous and playful, she and Hot Shot got along fine except for
their potty habits. Eventually we thought it might be better if we got
another dog to keep Hot Shot company and another goat to keep Nannette
company. This was the beginning, we have raised other animals
but our passion remains with the precious little Pygmy goats, and, as
they say, you can’t have just one.
In 1994 we purchased our
first registered pygmy goat but it was not until 1999 that we heard
about a new goat club called “Kids at Heart” that was just forming, only
an hour from our house, so we thought we would check it out. That was
it, we were hooked. The next year when Kids at Heart had their
show we were no longer spectators, we were ready (or so we thought) and
entered three goats.
As time has
passed and we have learned from many sources; purchased a select few
goats to improve our breeding program and are now seeing a consistent
quality in our offspring. We are most proud of the caliber of people who are now referring us customers which includes Steinhauser’s, Evans Feed, our personal vet, and former customers.
Our herd foundation animals are a blend of
goats from Whirlwind Farms, Hebron Farms, Lone Star South and Pitter
Patter Farm.
We maintain a
small heard of around 25 and breed for structural correctness, ease of
kidding and adherence to the Breed Standard.
We pride
ourselves in raising our goats in a clean environment, providing good
nutrition, a vaccination and worming schedule, combined with an
abundance of Love. We feel the key to our overall program is
consistency with all the things just mentioned.
We hope you
enjoy looking at our web site, our goats have given us hours of
enjoyment and we highly recommend them to anyone looking for some
wholesome, fun, entertainment.
