| A National Address, by Charlieangelx The challenges and most important tasks that the citizens of New York City and Washington, D.C. face now will be to recover any more possible survivors, recover victims so that their families can have some closure, and try to protect all otherwise "safe" citizens from any further damage, whether intentional, or collateral. The challenge we all face as Americans right now is to realize that although each and every one of us demand justice for these completely unjustified acts of terrorism, we must understand that this is a task that cannot be delivered overnight. We as an American society, are a very impatient people. We need to focus our efforts most on helping those who need helping right now, not playing the blame game. Because we have not pinpointed these terrorists within 24 hours, the people are looking for someone else to be angry at. The airlines for insufficient security standards, the pilots and passengers for deciding to fight back, the government for whatever the people want to believe they're just not telling you, the intelligence community for not seeing it coming. People, stop and think about what you're saying. I do not believe that there is one single person living in this country whose life has not been affected by this crisis. In some time the dust will settle and we can all begin rebuilding our violated sense of security in what we all believed was an "untouchable" nation. I have no doubt in my mind that these murderers will be found, and justly punished. I have no doubt that our President will deliver to each and every one of us Americans, exactly what we want and need. Although I'm sorry that is has to be under these types of circumstances, I am touched to see the citizens of the United States of America coming together the way they are right now. On my way to work today, I was driving through traffic wearing my military uniform, and an older gentleman looked over at me as I was passing him. He looked right into my eyes, gave me a soft smile, and a gentle nod of approval. This was truly one of the most inspiring moments I have ever felt in my life. This five second encounter with a perfect stranger has never made me more proud to wear my uniform and serve my country. Please take a moment, if you haven't already, to say a prayer for those lives lost in this senseless tragedy. Please do whatever you can, wherever you are, to help out in this effort to recover, regroup, and rebuild. -Charlieangelx |
