Jarmusch is commonly seen as one of the fathers of minimalism in film. He has become one of my favorite directors and his film Down by Law is my second favorite movie of all time. With movies being my primary artistic influence, I have mostly like learned the most from Jarmusch. His primary tool is to let you know how characters in the story are feeling without them saying anything. Long takes with no dialogue are emphasized by context clues. Knowing what someone is thinking is infinitely more powerful than hearing their words. For me, this is the ultimate artistic achievement.
