| "Daddy, daddy wake up." Matt rolled over in bed and slowly opened his eyes. At first he couldn't see, he was just aware of his arm being shaken and a small voice. "Daddy, you have to wake up." Matt rubbed his eyes, now he could just about make out the silhouette of his four and a half year old daughter Demi kneeling next to him. He switched on the bedside lamp. "What's wrong honey?" he asked. "Daddy, there's monsters under the bed!" she told him, almost in a whisper. "Monsters? Under your bed?" She nodded. "And they're really big, bigger then you and they told me they were going to eat you then eat me." she told him quickly. "No monster try's to eat my daughter." Matt got out of bed and held out his arms. Demi jumped up and Matt carried her out of his bedroom and down the hall to her own bedroom. He switched on the light and Demi pointed to the bed. "It's under there and it's blue and purple." she told him. Matt set Demi down before getting down on his hands and knees and grabbing the edge of the blanket. "Maybe it's Uncle Jeff." Demi giggled but took a few steps back as Matt prepared to throw back the blanket. "There's nothing under here...Demi run! The monsters got me!" Matt began to scream. Demi screamed and ran off in the direction of Matt's bedroom. Matt laughed and dusted his pyjama pants. He pulled himself up and walked towards his bedroom. Demi was hid under his blanket, not very well because her feet were sticking out of the bottom. Matt sat down and began to tickle her feet. Demi howled with laughter and finally surrendered. "Did the monster really get you?" she asked sitting up. "No, there were no monsters under the bed. Anyway you don't have to worry, I'm here to protect you." "Can I sleep in your bed," she asked before adding in a quiet voice "in case the monsters come back." Matt smiled and climbed under the covers. "Of course you can sweetheart," he pulled her closer to him and kissed the top of her head. "Now get some sleep." But Demi had already drifted off. It was hard being on the road four days a week and every time Matt had to leave Demi it hurt. Today was no exception. Demi stood outside Gil's crying. Matt was kneeled down in front of her trying to console her in someway. "I'll be back on Wednesday and I'll bring you presents." "But I don't want you to go." she sobbed rubbing her eyes. Matt hated having to say goodbye, Demi always cried and he hated seeing her sad. Jeff came over and picked Demi up. "Why are you crying?" he asked. "Because Daddy's going away." "Aren't you going to miss me?" Demi shook her head. Jeff then proceeded to pretend to cry. "You don't love me." he sobbed. Immediately Demi stopped crying and hugged Jeff. "I do, but I love my Daddy too." Jeff carried on pretending to cry while Matt talked to his dad. "She's upset." Gilbert said to Matt. "She always gets this way. I was lucky Vince gave me the weekend off. I've been thinking lately, I've been thinking of quitting the WWF." Gilbert looked shocked. "Matt, you can't be serious." "I am. Demi's getting older, I can't keep disappearing. She's going to need me 24/7. I have to play the role of mommy and daddy remember," "I understand son, just, think about it ok?" "I will." Matt walked over to Demi and Jeff. He took Demi off Jeff and gave her a kiss and a huge hug. "I've got to go now sweetie. Now you be a good girl and me and uncle Jeff'll phone you ok." Demi nodded. She then gave Jeff a quick kiss on the check before running back up to Gil. He picked her up and they waved till Jeff's car disappeared. |
