1963 Buick Wildcat
This takes a while to load since I am using a free webhost.  If you are on a dial-up connection, go use the restroom, make a sandwich and get a drink......it might be done when you get back.

That's dust on the trunk

Here are the paint job Photos

I thought about a tilt front end.

Would have been nice if I would have taken pictures of where the rust was after they fixed it.

They really did fix it with metal.

The Story Of This Car As I Know It

The vehicle is located in Fulton Missouri about 90 miles West of St. Louis just off of  I-70.  I purchased it from the estate of the original owners in 1993.  At that time it had just a little over 50,000 original miles and was in great mechanical shape.  The only mechanical work I have done on the car is a battery, water pump (didn’t go out but was about to the way it was squealing) and rear brake lines.  Plus some work that was done for me by a local mechanic, tune-up, carb rebuild and exhaust repair including new muffler.

Since the exterior of the car was in such great shape and only needed fresh paint I was able to get a local auto body trade school to adopt it as their project of the year.  This was in the spring of 1996.  I didn’t get the car back until the fall of 1997.  Rather than just paint the car the instructor decided to have his students take ALL of the chrome (including bumpers) off and the entire front end of the car because he had found some minor rust starting to show up underneath the chrome strip that runs from just behind the front fender all the way back to the rear wheel wells.  The chrome strip runs all the way back not the rust.  This was repaired with metal not bondo.  Also an old repair job was found on the passenger side rear quarter panel the bondo was removed from this and fixed correctly.  Very little machine sanding was done on the car since he was using the free labor of his students.  By removing all of the chrome and the front end they were able fix minor rust spots that were just starting that would not have been noticed until considerable damage had been done.

The instructor allowed the students to prep the body for paint but he shot the paint himself.  I can’t remember the brand of the paint or primer but he assured me it was the top of the line for the GM color code we needed.  I do know that even with his trade discount the paint and primer cost almost 900 bucks in 1997.

I know I should have done the engine compartment when the car was stripped down but I didn’t have the $$$.  Not an excuse just the facts.  I knew I was getting a $4,500 tear down and paint job for a little less than $2,000 so I figured I could work carefully on the engine compartment as more funds became available.

The car needs a headliner and the visors recovered.   There is a minor leak in the air conditioning system.  Back when I still had cans of freon 12 available it would take less than ½ a can per summer to keep the thing blowing ice cold air until fall.  My AC guy put a leak detector on it and said the seal on the compressor was leaking.  He said this was a replaceable item and was a common failure in a car this old.  His other suggestion was put a newer model compressor on it if I didn’t want to stay all original.  Sure wish I would have stocked up on R-12 before they outlawed it, that would have been a lot easier.   "When they outlaw freon then only outlaws will have freon"  Sorry I couldn't resist that one.

I drove the car quite a bit before I had it stripped and painted.  It started easy, ran strong with no smoke or leaks and was a blast to drive.  After it came home from the body shop kids, job and other commitments soon forced it to the back burner and I lost interest.  If you look close at the pictures of the back seat you can see my box of wax and polish sitting there waiting for the next car show.  Speaking of seats there is atear in one of the seams on the driver seat, I think there is a photo of it.

During the fall of 03 I ran into a Buick mechanic that started his career  in the late 60's at a local Buick dealership.  I let him have the car for a couple of weeks so he could rebuild the carburetor and do a tune-up.  The car came back starting and running better than ever.  The mechanic told me cylinder 8 was just a tiny bit low on compression but he suspected it was from lack of being driven and the number did not warrant further inspection.

I’m not a car salesman I’m a car enthusiast on retreat.  Someday I will get the fever again but right now it is gone and this is too nice of a car to rot away in a storage building.  I’m pretty firm on my price but it don't hurt to ask.  I don’t think my price is unreasonable for this one reason,  the car is less than $1,500 away from being a restored to original condition 1963 Buick Wildcat, 2 owner 52,000 mile street pounding head turner.   Speaking of street pounding I have never “hotrodded” or raced this car. Sure I’ve put my foot in it more than once just to hear that big nailhead engine light up and pull me back into the seat but I have done nothing that would stress the engine or transmission beyond their capabilities.

I'm starting to get quite a few questions so I will start posting them here.

What options does the car have?    AC only, no pwr windows, brakes or steering.

Condition of vinyl roof?  Perfect

Condition of chrome?  All of it is in place,  some minor pitting on taillights, shopping cart trim on pass side has numerous dings

Can the headliner be repaired?  Nope it needs to be replaced but all of the bows are there.

Condition of Window and Door Gaskets?  All are in place but they appear to be original.  As far as leaks I don't know because the car has always been kept inside.  Never had any problem with the garden hose when washing the car.

Is that a tear in the carpet on the driverside next to the console?  It's a leaf that must have fallen off of my shoe.  Carpets need cleaning but they are in good shape thanks to those high dollar floor mats you see next to the leaf.

Will you take a trade?  Only if it is a black over red 1966 Comet Cyclone GT or a 1977 Black and Gold SE Trans Am.  My first car and my first new car I'll trade ya even for either one.

Since you are the second owner did you keep the original title?  Yes I did  it is dated June 25, 1963 and it shows a sale price of 3774.44

Whats the VIN?    6J1109062

I have rambled enough if you have any questions or you need a specific photo of a flaw or attribute you have my email address (I check it regularly).
