| The Tempe, Ariz - based Jimmy Eat World was formed in 1994 by guitarist/vocalist Jim Adkins, bassist Rich Burch, drummer Zach Lind and guitarist/vocalist Tom Linton. Signed by Capitol Records after only on year of playing local shows, the quartet recorded their debut album, Static Prevails, in 1995 and moved more than 10,000 units. From there, it was full speed ahead. Clarity, their second full length effort appeared in 1999 after one of their singles, "Lucky Denver Mint" (released in 1998 on an self- titled EP) found its way onto the Never Been Kissed soundtrack. Despite their rather sudden success, Jimmy Eat World frontman Jim Adkins speaks for the rest of the guys when he says that they never expected to earn a major label contract, and opines that there's nothing too special about their music. "We describe it as simple music, elaborately prepared," Adkins told Rolling Stone in early 1999. Jimmy Eat World's lates album, Bleed America, was released in 2001. Officially From Rolling Stone |
