Soul mates
"Hey Pam!" I said running up on Monday 10th march 2003 "You’ll never guess what Shaun got me for my birthday."
"Go on then what’d he get ya then?" She asked.
"HIM!! He came for the day on Saturday. He asked me what I was doing, I said nothing much probably just hanging around with Lou and then he turned up at 11! I was sooo happy!! And he bought me this." I said hyperactively showing her the charm ring he’d bought me.
"Oh my god! He came! What’s he look like? Is he fit?"
"Yeah! He’s cfsl and every other letter of the alphabet, and he's a great puller. Not that I've got anything to compare it to." I said with a laugh (cfsl stood for cute, fit, sexy lad) "So now he’s gonna try come like once a month ‘cos he liked spending time with me!"
"Well cool, we gotta think of a plan so I can meet him."
"Definitely"
Shaun was my sort of boyfriend who lived two hours away, so that’s why we weren’t properly going out, (but 1 visit later and we were). He loved me, I loved him and we both wanted to get married and have kids.
After then he came whenever he could until he was 19, then he moved to Harrogate and soon after I moved in with him. I was 17 and at six form but I had a car and drove to school everyday, and I worked on a weekend.
It got to the July after my 18th birthday. I was leaving school, Shaun and I were engaged, and Pam and I were saying goodbye…
"I can’t believe it’s the last day of school. No more Mr. Neal or Mrs. Pearson, yes!!! I’m gonna miss seeing you most days, but we’ll keep in touch." Said Pam.
"Yeah of course we will. You’ve got mine and Shaun’s phone number and address. I’ll ring you as well and we’ll go out on the piss and stuff. Cya." I said as she was about to go for her bus and I was going to my car. We hugged goodbye and we were gone. Into the wild world with hopes of brighter futures.
"Hey babe" Shaun said to me when he got home.
"Hiya babez, wanna go out for a drink to celebrate me leaving school?" I asked him.
"Sure, but I’d like to get back earlyish to celebrate in a different way." He said with a cheeky smile.
So we went out but got home and about 11 and ‘celebrated’ in a different way.
Over the next few months Shaun and me were madly in love, more so than ever. That night I’d become pregnant and we’d had a son Adam Paul Needham, he took Shaun’s surname because soon I would be. He wasn’t christened because neither of us thought it necessary, we weren’t religious and we didn’t mind if he was or not, we chose to leave that choice to him. We planned a date for our wedding, the 22nd of August, and everything was going to plan. I had a job in the Prince (local pub) and Shaun also had a job but someone was always home for Adam or I could take him with me. Peggy and Alan (the pub owners) let him sleep upstairs and I’d know about it if he woke up. Shaun and me were so happy and couldn’t wait for the rest of our lives to follow.
Soon after I was dialling Pam’s number at work, we hadn’t spoken for over 9 and a half months because Pam was too hectic with her new job as a journalist.
"Charlie? Oh my god!!!! Haven’t spoken to you in ages! How’s things going." She said when the secretary put me through.
"I know but you were so busy with your job you never seemed to have time to talk. Things are going great! I just bumped into Chloe in town and that’s how I got your number. I'm actually ringing to invite you to mine and Shaun’s wedding in August." I said
"You’re actually getting married, it lasted. Oh-my-god, oh-my-god!!!" she said at an amazing speed. Then as she heard crying in the background she asked "what's that noise?"
"Oh that’s the other thing I needed to tell you we’ve had a kid, a little boy called Adam. He's a 2 months old now and he's already a little demon. No he's really sweet actually but he doesn't like sleeping when me and Shaun want to!"
"When did you get pregnant? If he's a month old it must have been around last July."
"He was conceived the night we left school. I didn’t even know I was pregnant until a month later. But it wouldn’t have made any difference if I’d known sooner. I’d have still kept him and I'm so glad I've got him. And Shaun loves him to bits, he's a great daddy."
"Wow!! Cool. You a mum I wudda never thought it, well not yet anyway. We’ll have to go out this weekend if someone can look after Adam."
"Well we can’t get dad to look after him this weekend cos he's away with Paddy but you’re welcome to come round for tea and a drink after. Shaun won’t mind."
"I’d love to!!"
"Come round at 5 on Saturday, yeah? And we’ll see you then. You can meet Adam as well."
"I look forward to it. Well I better get back to work. Cya Saturday.
"Yeah, bye." I said as I put the phone down.
I told Shaun that Pam was coming over and he was fine with it. We were so happy together, Shaun, Adam and me. And I couldn’t wait to see Pam again.
I wasn’t working at all on Saturday so I spent longer than usual sorting out food. We had a fondue, we just laughed and talked for hours and Pam ended up staying the night. It felt great to lay in bed next to Shaun, with one of my old best friends in the spare room after spending hours catching up and getting on brilliantly. It didn’t last long though because soon Adam was crying again, Shaun offered to sort it out and got up to go see him. He was great if I was too tired or anything he’d do all he could to help me. I couldn’t wait to get married to the love of my life.
I had Lou as maid of honour, Pam and one of Shaun’s friends, as bridesmaids and the best man was one of Shaun’s friends. The wedding was fantastic! My dad did the photos and all my friends were there even some people I hadn't seen since school like Bromwyn and Sophie. At the after wedding party Rob’s phone started ringing and Rory ended up coming. He brought with him Ad, Sam, Liam, Lee and Matt. It was great seeing them all in one place again. I’d never been so happy. Lou was there with Paul, my cousin and her fiancé, and she was so happy it was great to see that me and Lou had kept the people we’d loved mine since before my Christmas 02 and Lou's since just before my 15th birthday. Lou looked after Adam for the entire time and had him for the weekend so Shaun and me could get some time together.
Lou was great with Adam and she really loved him. By the time it got to his 4th birthday he was a right little demon and she had to look after him a lot of the time if Shaun and me were both at work.
Then on my 24th birthday I got a call off Lou with two sets of news, she was pregnant and her and Paul were getting married on the 4th may, two days after Lou's birthday.
Finally everything had turned out well for me. I was happily married, my friends were happy and everything was good in my world.
