Are There Any Free Alternatives to Microsoft Office?

If you don't have a specific need to use Microsoft Office and are looking for a comparable alternative there is an suite called OpenOffice which is very good alternative. It contains many of the same features present in Microsoft office and it's available as a Free. To learn more about OpenOffice visit their web Site at www.openoffice.org

How Can I Create A PDF Document?

In order to create a PDF document you must first have an application capable of creating a PDF document installed. Some applications like OpenOffice have PDF creation functionality built into it. If you are wanting to create a PDF document from an application which does NOT inherently support PDF creation you can still do so. You can do so by purchasing Adobe's PDF Creator or by installings an open source application such as CutePDF, since CutePDF is open source it can be downloaded and installed free of charge.

Are There Any Free Alternatives to Virus Scanning Software?

Yes there are free alternatives to virus scanning software. While the free alternatives are nice, please read the information about them carefully to ensure the limitations on them are suitable for your application. Most free alternatives provide the virus definition files but at a lower priority, also the free alternatives generally have restrictions on commercial and governmental use. One that I like to use and have used extensively is Grisoft AVG, to learn more about AVG please visit the Grisoft web site

What is a Firewall?

A firewall is a device either software or hardware which restricts access to and from your computer. To view the wikipedia definition click here. If your computer is connected to the internet, specifically using a broadband internet connection such as cable or DSL you should certainly have a firewall installed. For home computing either single machines or a small home network a simple software firewall installed on each computer is sufficient for small businesses a software firewall will work but could prove difficult to maintain so a hardware firewall is a better option. What a firewall does is restrict access to and from your computer; if an application installed on your computer tries to access the intranet it is stopped unless you have authorized the firewall to allow that application to access the internet. This is helpful to reduce the possibility of Trojans or spyware from sending personal information to unwanted companies and individuals. Also a firewall can strict access to your machine by unwanted individuals thereby reducing the chance of your computer being hacked into and personal information being stolen.

Automatically put people I reply to in Outlook Contact List

If you have Outlook 2000 and you use it in Internet Mode Only (IMO) then you already have this feaure. You can see it by going to Tools...Options...Preferences...E-mail Options. At the bottom of that window is the option "Automatically put people I reply to in".

If you are using a version newer then Outlook 2000 you either need to use one of the many Outlook Addins or you can use this VBA code supplied by Sue Mosher as posted on www.outlookcode.com

To view the VBA code click here Click here to view VBA code...
