Lies

A dark shadow falls across my face
The night enfolds me in its black embrace
I surrender to  the emotionless sky
As I kiss my innocence goodbye.

I try to talk but my words are stuck
In my broken dreams and tragic luck
They tell me I have nothing to fear
But I see in their eyes that they are not sincere.

The tone of their voices scares me
I know there is more that I should see
But a veil has clouded my eyes
A veil of broken trust and lies, lies, and lies.

My hands are tied behind my back
My innocence is under attack
'Cos I'm just a girl with little power
Against these animals I cower.

They are trying to use me in ways that are not right
But I won't give up without a fight
Slowly the weight which held me down
Is lifting and I watch them frown.

The knots slip undone and the veil is raised
Instead of scared I'm now amazed
There was a strength inside of me
That enabled me to set myself free.
