Growing up

I've known you for a long time now. You've seen into my soul and I've seen into yours.
We grew up together, in this little town that we both want to leave.
I've watched you as you've laughed and cried your way through childhood, grazing your knees and playing with balloons.
But we're teenagers now.
And you're a guy and I'm a girl.
How can we understand each other anymore?
We used to be best friends but now when I see you, you barely smile.
Do you still want to marry a model and be the richest man in the world?
Do you still read comics with a torch under the blankets after the light's been turned off?
I don't play with barbie dolls anymore.
I read in the newspaper the other day about a guy who saved his friends life and nearly got himself killed.
Would you still do that for me?
Did you know I'm going to be an actress when I'm older?
Have you noticed how when we're little we say 'when I grow up' but when we're teenagers we say 'when I'm older'?
I heard you were going out with a girl in your class. Is she nice? Is she smart? Funny? Or is she just pretty?
I'm not jealous. Just hurt you didn't tell me.
I watch the sky sometimes like we used to together. Remember? We'd try and spot a shooting star to wish on. I guess I haven't grown out of believing in magic.
