	Theatre 99 is quite the multi-tasking venue. Located in a courtyard, behind Cafe Lana, Theatre 99 is a small artsy-fartsy space that provides an intimate atmosphere for whatever performance is being held. The mainstay and founding family of this venue is the improv comedy troupe, the Have Nots--Greg Tavares, Brandy Rucker, and Timmy Finch. The group formed in 1995, and continues to crack up audiences in Charleston and on the road. I've been involved in two Have Nots shows (I say involved because improv is based on the audience's suggestions) and both times I had to exercise bladder control because they are just that hilarious. If you've ever enjoyed a Comedy Sportz show, or have watched Who's Line is it Anyway?, you'll understand the nature of the beast. In addition to comedy, Theatre 99 also hosts theatre and music performances. As I mentioned, it is an intimate space, which creates the feeling of being part of the performance. They've also got a nifty little concession stand with goodies and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). There is also some funky art for sale on the walls, currently by Marius Valdes (the same artist who does the Music Farm wall calendar). Even the bathrooms are cute & cozy. In a city that often caters to tourists and the big buck, Theatre 99 is a welcome respite. It's a "Come as you may & enjoy yourself while you're here" kind of place. It's all at once a slice of the familiar, with the excitement of something different. Whether you catch the Have Nots (and you darn well better) or a performance of a different genre, you won't be disappointed.
