Q & A
w/ Action Cat
Q.  What is the origin of the band's name?
AC:  Kevin wanted to start a sandwich shop.  He wanted it to be the greatest sandwich shop ever.  With the greatest sandwiches ever.  And the greatest name ever.  It was to be called "Mount Saint Sandwich." The loan fell through.

Q.  What kind of music do you play?
AC:  Songs from or inspired by the film Young Guns II.  We're like the Donnas, but we're not a bunch of fat, pasty white chicks playing tired AC/DC licks.  I guess we're not like the Donnas.  We pretty much just play "Blaze of Glory" over and over.

Q.  What is your favorite song to perform?

AC:  "These Eyes" by the Guess Who or "Green Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf.  But don't hold your breath.

Q.  Where is your favorite place to perform?
AC:  Free Bird Lounge.  Austin, TX.

Q.  What are your plans for world domination?
AC:  The world celebrates mediocrity.  We feel pretty confident about things.  We're the single greatest thing that's ever happened to you.  Lock up the men and their sons...I mean the women and children.

Q.  What is your favorite thing about Charleston?
AC:  Tie:  Citadel guys/Coast Guard guys...I mean the women and children.  I mean the women.

Q.  What is your favorite food/beverage?
     AC:  Cigarettes.  For both.

Q.  What are your musical influences?
AC:  The entire Baltimore scene.  From the aquarium to the local theatre.  And Five Way Friday.

Q.  What is your favorite CD/record?
AC:  I do like that R. Kelly "Ignition (Remix)" an awful lot.  That album or Abbey Road.

Q.  Who is your favorite historical figure?
AC:  Tie:  The Earl of Sandwich/The Earl of Baltimore

Q.  What is your guilty pleasure?
AC:  Motor scooters and fat chicks.  Singing Ewan MacGregor's parts from "Moulin Rouge" into a hairbrush before a foggy mirror.  Motorized fat chicks.  There are so many.

Overview
Mount Saint Stereo sprang from experimental rock band The Moths and they play rock music that is boldly original and slightly esoteric.  In a city where people are just starting to wake up to original and unique music, Mt. Saint Stereo are going boldly into that there night and playing whatever the hell they want to, however the hell they want to, but with style.  Each element of the music is audible--guitar, bass, drums, vocals--and slightly minimalist without being freaky-deaky weird.  Just slightly eccentric, actually.
