| A recent addition to the Charleston music scene, singer/songwriter Michael Flynn and band members Bobby Plexico (guitar), Donny Hummel (bass), and Josh Kaler (drums) add a dynamic sound to the mix of live music around town. The fusion of guitar style piano playing with richly textured harmonies brings Flynn's piano and songwriting talent to the forefront. The band's effect is not possible without Josh, Donny and Bobby's skills and contributions. These four musicians pour their talent into a stream of song consciousness. Expect to be rocked out, but this is rock music with depth. Flynn's lyrics have been compared to poetry; his writings tell a story in a smart, creative expression. While much of the music deals with topics of love and heartache each experience is treated with a voice of reflective respect regardless of whether it is about excitement, confusion or hurt. Their sound is the kind that seeps inside, swirls around and brings a smile to your face while the rest of you is caught up in the movements of the music-if ya know what I mean. To catch a sample of the band, check out the website www.michaelflynn.com A few of their songs are featured along with their upcoming scheduled performances. However, this band is best experienced live- their new, edgier music is not on file yet. If you are curious to hear Flynn's older music, there is a C.D. from his former band (made with current drummer Josh Kaler) that can be purchased at shows and at some local music stores (Millenium in Mt. Pleasant). The C.D. is different from their current style- eclectic, mellower tracks that are well worth the purchase. Another reason to experience this band live is that you will get the chance to discover that these four guys are genuinely nice people that can throw back a joke in a split second. |
