Chapter 6

JANDICK came out of his office with his shotgun and pointed it at Tannen's gang saying "Freeze, Tannen." But Buford turned around and shot him. "You're too slow, sheriff." he said. After that, the Tannen gang left. The sheriff's wife and son came to the side of the stricken man. The sheriff looked up at the two and said to his son "Just one thing, young man." "Anything, paw." said his son. "Just remember." said the sheriff, "When it comes to getting things your way, don't give others an inch. And give him the business." After that, he expired.

Marty and the bartender got Doc inside. Marty looked out the window. Already the townfolk were surrounding the body of Sheriff Jandick. Then, he heard Doc coming too. "Oooh." he said, "That was a strong drink." "Doc." said Marty, "We've got problems." "Marty." said Doc, "The recipe. Did you take notes?" "Yes, Doc." said Marty, "I wrote it all down. But..." "What a headache." said Doc, "I sure miss Tylenol." He looked out the window and saw the crowd. "Marty!" he exclaimed, "What in the name of Sir Isaac H. Newton has happened here?" "Doc." said Marty, "That's what I'm trying to tell you. Buford Tannen shot Sheriff Jandick." "Great Scott!!" exclaimed Doc. "That's not all, Doc." said Marty, "He's kidnapped John Lennon." "Oh no." gasped Doc. "He wants you and 'Clint Eastwood' the meet him at the manure dump or he kills John." "This is disasterous." said Doc, "If Buford Tannen kills John Lennon, it's the end of the world. Marty, we have to go there and save him at all costs." "Right with you, Doc." said Marty. Doc went back to the barn. The DeLorean was still invisible. Doc felt for the door and opened it saying "We'll take them by surprise." They both got in. Doc, pushed the opener to the roof which opened. Activating the hover circuits, Doc lifted the car through the open roof. Then, Doc steered the car towards the manure dump.

Within minutes, Marty spotted the manure dump with his binoculars. It was the same manure dump that Buford had Jennifer held hostages months back. (or, in this case, eleven years ago.) "There they are." said Marty, "And they've got John Lennon. Let's run them over with the DeLorean." "Marty." said Doc, "That's murder. Besides, it's not Tannen's time yet." "Then, what do we do?" asked Marty. "I've got a plan." said Doc as he steered the DeLorean towards a large thicket.

Tannen and his gang surrounded the unconscience youth. "I wonder what this dude was doing in that blacksmith's barn?" asked one of his men. "Better yet." asked another gangmember, "What the hell does that blacksmith want to do with a barn?" "That don't matter." said Buford, "What matters is this kid here. There's gotta be a connection between him and that blacksmith and Eastwood. If there's something important about him, I'd think they'd do anything rather than seein' us a-shootin' him." Then, a noise was heard from the bushes.

Marty sprang from the bushes and said "Okay, Tannen. I'm here." Buford turned around to see Marty. "You're Gene Eastwood." he said, "I want Clint Eastwood. Not you, runt." "I am Clint Eastwood." said Marty. Buford pulled out his gun and pointed it at John Lennon saying "Prove it!" Marty stalled. Tannen persisted. "Prove it, I said." he said. "How?" asked Marty. Angerly, Tannen pulled on the trigger on his gun ready to gun down John. At that moment, Marty slowely reached to his back and pulled out a dish. "One last chance." insisted Tannen. "What if I don't want to?" asked Marty. "I guess this dude's gonna meet his maker, then." said Tannen. "Well then," said Marty, "Give it your best shot." Tannen did. At that moment, Marty pulled out the plate and flung it at the gunman as he pulled the trigger. The plate hit the hand and gun as the bullet cleared the barrell of the gun. But the impact upset the timing of the gun and the bullet strayed from it's course and missed it's intened target. Tannen turned to Marty saying "So, you are Clint Eastwood after all." He was approaching Marty when he felt a breeze. Then, he bumped into something. There was nothing there. And then, Buford said "What the hell?" But he convulsed as if something hit him. Then, to the amazement of his men, Buford found himself off the ground a floating towards a pile of manure. Once overhead, he was dropped into it. The men were so startled at this, they didn't noticed Marty picking up John. Then, a door appeared out of thin air and the interior of the DeLorean could be seen. There at the driver's seat was the Doc. "Nice going, Doc." said Marty. "Get in, Marty." said Doc and Marty did after he put John in the back. Then, the car lifted off the ground and away.

Buford's men looked in awe at the sudden turn of events. Then, a sound of horse hooves could be heard. "Do you know what I think?" said one of Buford's men, "I think that Buford's going back to jail." The rest concurred. They fled leaving their leader behind. The deputy arrived with his men saying to one of them "Pull him out of that shit." Then, to the others "After them." And they did. After Buford was pulled out of the manure, the deputy said "Buford Tannen. You're under arrest for escaping from the Solidad Prison and for the murder of Sheriff Jandick. Do you have anything to say?" Buford spat out some manure saying "I hate manure." After that, he was taken away.

After returning to the barn, Doc went to the store to buy the ingrediants for making the wake-up juice. Coming back, he read the notes that Marty took down and concocted the juice. Then, putting a funnel into John's mouth and a clothespin on his nose, Doc poured the drink into his mouth. Moments later, John's eyes bugged right open. Yetting out a yell, he went out of the barn and found the nearest horse troth to dunk his head in. Doc and Marty followed him and pulled him out and dragged him back in. "Okay." said Doc, "We've got ten minutes to get changed and return back to 1957 before he wakes up." "Wake up?" asked Marty. "That's right, Marty." said Doc as he loaded Mr. Fusion, "John Lennon must never be aware that he's been traveling through time." "Doc." said Marty, "What about the time you brought the Beatles from 1967 to 1985?" "I had them sleep induced before returning them to their time." said Doc, "And then, snuck them back in their beds. You see, Marty. I took them out of their homes in the middle of the night so I could show them to you and Jennifer and when I returned them, I had to do something to convince them that their trip to our time was only a dream." "I see." said Marty as he and Doc changed clothes. Then, setting the time circuits for July 6, 1957 and the destination location for Liverpool, England, Doc lifted the car off the floor and through the opened roof. After pushing the button to close the roof, Doc put his foot down on the accelerator and kicked the DeLorean up to 88 miles per hour until it was gone in a brilliant flash of light leaving behind a pair of fire trails.

The DeLorean first landed in the parking lot outside the church. Since it was still invisible, no one noticed the car. "Get him inside." said Doc, "I'll put this on the roof and follow you in." "Right, Doc." said Marty. It was only a matter of minutes before John came too. Marty hurridly carried him back stage. As he was sat down on the chair, Lennon came too. "What happened?" he asked. Marty showed him the bottle he drank saying "You had a little too much of this." John put his hand on his forehead saying "I sure did. Me head is really giving it to me." "Come on, John." said Marty, "Let's get out there." Marty took John to the door and opened it. There stood the rest of the Quarrymen. One of them saying "We're up, John." Being handed a guitar John said "Alright." Him and his band went onstage. After introducing himself and his band, John performed the songs that Marty taught him starting with Johnny B Goode.

Marvin Berry was in the audience touring with his band in England. While hearing the Quarrymen perform Johnny B Goode, he went to the nearest payphone and called long distance. "Chuck!" he said, "Chuck. It's me, Marvin. Marvin Berry. Do you know how famous your music is now? Listen to this." He extend his phone and pointed it in the general direction of the stage.

After Johnny B. Goode, the Quarrymen performed Be-bop-aloo and when this was done, the Quarrymen left the stage to a rousing ovation. Marty was there to meet him. "That was interesting stuff I performed." said John, "How about joining me band?" "Aw naw." said Marty, "I've got other things to do. But there's someone here that who's interested in joining." Stepping out of the way, Marty admitted in a young man with curly dark hair. "Hello, Mr. Lennon." said the youth, "Me name is Paul McCartney. And I would like to join your band." "You do?" said John, "Who told you about us?" "Ivan Vaughn." said Paul. "Oh yeah." said John, "I know him." "He wanted me to come with him here today to the fete saying that he knew some mates that he grew up with here." said Paul. "Well, good for him." said John, "How do you like me performance today?" "Pretty good." said Paul. "Can you perform?" asked John. "I can." said Paul, "Here's a number." He picked up a guitar and started playing. Marty recognized this song. It was Twenty Flight Rock by Eddie Cochrane. And Paul was playing so good. The look on John's face told him that he was interested. After Paul was finished, John asked "Care to join me band?" "Of course." said Paul. "You're in." said John. Him and the band embraced the newest member and shook his hand. Marty turned to leave as Lorraine entered. This was the moment when she was about to ask him if he could spend the rest of his days with her. But, before she did, she stopped by to talk to Marty. "Marty." she said, "Did you teach John that?" "I sure did." said Marty. Then, John approached the two. As he did, Lorraine said "John. That was interesting music." John looked at Marty saying to Lorraine "I had a good teacher." He extended his hand to shake Marty's saying "Thanks for saving me hide." "You're welcome." said Marty, "Listen,I have to go now." "Hey kid." asked John, "You didn't tell me your name." Marty paused for a minute before saying "Klein. Calvin Klein. But, my friends call me Marty." "Well good luck, Marty." said John. "You too, John." said Marty. "Marty." said Lorraine, "Do you think I'll ever see you again?" "Probably." said Marty, "And good luck getting back with George again." "I don't think I'll ever get back with George." said Lorraine. She started to come onto John saying "I want to spend the rest of my life with him." "I'm flattered." said John, "But, I've already got a girlfriend." Lorraine backed away sad-faced saying "I see." Marty put his hand on her shoulders saying "Lorraine. Just give George another chance." After a moment, she said "Alright." After that, Marty left.
