Amanda H. Shank, 91, of Harrisonburg, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Crestwood of Virginia
Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Shank was born Oct. 19, 1910, in Clearspring, Md., and was a daughter of the late Michael S.
and Florence Eby Horst.
She and her family moved to Harrisonburg from Mercersburg, Pa. in 1950. She was a bookkeeper for
the family�s feed and grain brokerage business.
Mrs. Shank was a member of the Harrisonburg Mennonite Church and the Friendship Circle Class.
She was also a member of Gideon�s Auxiliary and the Home Extension Service for many years.
On Jan. 9, 1935, she married J. Clinton Shank, who preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Oren Shank of Broadway and John Shank of Masanutten; four daughters,
Faith Casey of Annandale, Hope Stoner, Penn Laird, Charity Showalter, Harrisonburg, and Joy
Yoder, Apple Creek, Ohio; four brothers, Reuben, Nathan, Enos and Abram Horst, all of
Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Florence Horst of Harrisonburg and Lula Ross of Sarasota, Fla.; 11
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Rohrer, Bro. Samuel, born in Montgomery County, Ohio, Dec.18,1926, died at
the home of his son Ammon, in the bounds of the Walnut congregation, Ind.
March 29, 1912, aged 85 years 3 months and 11 days. In 1850 he was united in
the marriage to Rebecca Shank, of Ohio. To this union five sons and two
daughters were born. The mother and two daughters preceded him in death. IN
1852 he and his wife settled in Peru, Miami Co. Ind. Later he moved on a
tract of land near Bunker Hill, where he lived for about forty years. The
latter years of his life were spent at the home of his son Ammon in the
Walnut congregation. At an early age he united with the Church of the
Brethren, living a faithful Christian life until death. He leaves 5 sons.

complications of diseases following the flu. He had been a member of the
