----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First, I see you list Elizabeth Chappell, daughter of Thomas and Mary Briggs Chappell, with Joseph Fowler.

In his 1992 publication,
"Some Descendants of Early Three Early Henrico (Chesterfield) County, Virginia Settlers....."
Jermone Travers suggests the daughter who married Joseph Fowler was Sarah Briggs Chappell.

There was a Joseph Fowler of Dinwiddie County, Virginia who married
a daughter of Thomas Chappell of Lunenburg County.
Thomas Chappell mentions his Fowler granddaughters in his 1788 will.
A Joseph Fowler's orphans were identified in Orphans Court in Dinwiddie County Virginia in 1789
and other children were mentioned in Joseph Fowler's North Carolina will dated 8 April 1782.
The children in the Dinwiddie orphans court were Martha, Mary, Sally, Mary Briggs, and Willey Fowler,
orphans of Joseph. Thomas Chappel's will named Sarah (Sally), Wilmoth (Willey), and Mary Briggs Fowler.
Thomas Chappel's wife Mary was probably a Briggs, since his daughter, Sarah Briggs Chappell
was sponsored by Henry Briggs and Elizabeth Briggs at her christening
in Albermarle Parish (Surry and Sussex Counties) on 17 May 1761 (Boddie 1958: 25).
Sarah (not mentioned in Thomas's will) was probably the deceased mother of Joseph's orphans.
Mary Briggs Fowler was named after her grandmother Chappell.
Mary Briggs Fowler married Gray Gray in Sussex County on 6 May 1802. Thomas Chappell (her uncle) was guardian.
Children identified in Joseph's North Carolina will
were Bullard, William Anderson, Susannah Jones, Mary Spain, Godfrey, Wilmoth Hopkins, Joseph, Nancy Houghton,
wife, Nancy, and minor children Martha, Sally, and Burwell.
While names are similar enough to be the same family,
it does appear that there could be another Joseph Fowler who has not been identified. (Travers, 1992)

I have transcribed the LWT of Joseph Fowler of Wake Co. NC at my website
 http://mrfowler.com/wills/JosephFowler1782.htm

The Following is from the Dinwiddie Co., VA Court Orders 1789-1791

On 16 November 1789, Martha and Mary Fowler, orphans of Joseph Fowler,
made choice of William Spain as their guardian.

On 21 December 1789, ordered that Thomas Chappell be made guardian of Mary Briggs Fowler,
orphan of Joseph Fowler, deceased.

On 21 December 1789, ordered that William Chappell be made guardian of Willey Fowler,
orphan of Joseph Fowler, deceased

If you are correct on the date of marriage this would seem to suggest this Joseph Fowler
was the son of the Joseph Fower whose 1782 will of Wake County NC is discussed.

Question: What indications have you found that suggests Elizabeth Chappell was
the wife of Joseph Fowler and that they were married in 1775?

Second, I noticed you have quite an extensive pedigree of the family of John Fowler from Hopkins County.
-----------------------------------------
transcribed on pages 102-103 of a book titled House of Fowler by Grover Parsons Fowler published in 1940.
The heading of the letter indicate that both letters were sent from Hopkins County, Kentucky.
The first letter, dated May 17, 1849, states that John's family arrived
at Thomas Fowler's home on April 26 after a 46 day journey and that another brother,
William Fowler, had come to visit from Fentrys County, Tennessee were he was living with his family.
The second letter, dated September 7, 1856, indicates that their brother
William Fowler died in the latter part of winter of 1855 and his
family was still living in Fentrys County, Tennessee.
I am a direct descendant of the brother William mentioned in the letters.
This Fowler line is believed to be also descended from the Henrico/Chesterfield Fowler family.
-------------------------------------------------------
In his book, Grover Parsons Fowler claims these
three brothers, John, Moody, and William, are
the sons of Richard Fowler Jr. of Granville County, North Carolina
who was son of Richard Sr., son of Mark from Dinwiddie County, Virginia.
(Mark Fowler was the brother to Joseph Fowler who left a will in Wake Co., NC in 1782.)
At this time, I do not understand how Grover Parsons Fowler reaches this conclusion
as I have reviewed the census records of Granville County
and it does not seem apparent that Richard Fowler Jr. had sons of the same ages
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
however, it does seem likely, indeed, that William Fowler of Fentress County, Tennessee
is a descendant of Godfrey Fowler of Henrico County, Virginia.
Godfrey Fowler the First was the son of John Fowler who died in 1683 in Henrico County, Virginia.
The will of Godfrey Fowler, dated 29 June 1743, Henrico County, Virginia names his son Mark Fowler.
In 1749, Chesterfield County was formed of the part of Henrico County where the Godfrey Fowler homestead was located.
In 1752, Dinwiddie County was formed from the southern part of Prince George County, bordering Chesterfield County.

The letters below are quoted as they appear in the text:

State of Kentucky
Hopkins County 17 days of May 1849

Dear Brother

I take my pen to write you a few lines informing you that we are all well at present and hope these lines
will find you the same. I can inform you that we all landed safe at Thomas Fowlers on the 26th day of April,
after a journey of 46 days. We had no serious accidents on the road, we had some good weather and some bad,
some good roads and some bad as is the common lot of all movers.

We are all pleased with the country so far, the land looks well beyond our expectations, although the lands
are not as we expected to find them. I have rented a small plantation of 14 acres for which I had to give
30 dollars rent which is high, but the land is good for tobacco.

You must give mine and my familys regard to Richard and Hillman and their families and to Edna and Mahala
and to all my friends in the neighborhood _______________. I saw brother William, he came out to spend the night.
He is living in Fentrys County, Tennessee. You write me soon and direct letters to
Madesonville Post Office, Hopkins County. Moodys dog left us in Guilford County and we wish to know if
he got back (he did return two weeks later). Nothing more remains.

                                                Your affectionate brother,
                                                            John Fowler

State of Kentucky
Hopkins County 7th day of Sept. 1856

Dear Brother,
I embrace the present opportunity to inform you that we are all in reasonable health and
also the family connections in this country________. I received a letter from Levi Clark about two weeks ago
saying that brother William was dead, he died the latter part of winter 1855, his family is
still living in Fentrys County, Tenn. __________. My son, Thomas, requests you to see Joseph Gooch
and see if there is any chance of getting money from William Garretts estate, and Thomas Fowler
also wishes you to see James Gill, tell him he wishes him to send the papers he holds
against Bennett Fowler __________. I must inform you about the crops, corn is sorry in this country
although we are in hope we will make plenty of tobacco crop.
Tobacco is bringing at Louisville from $6 - $16 per hundred. I have not sold my last years crop.
Corn is worth $1.50 bbl., and bacon is 8 cts., lb. __________.

                                                Your affectionate brother till death

                                                (signed) John Fowler
