Experimental Fang 1B
Known only as 1-267, the Fang 1B was Cobra's attempt to broaden the role of the Battlefield Support Gyro-Copter. Removing the rocket and laser payload allowed for a large shell cannon to be mounted on the underside of the gyro-copter. The design offered effective large bore support, at a lower cost and a larger shell load out than the previous gyro-copter designs. This support would replace fixed artillery positions for infantry close support, when speed of deployment was a critical operation directive.
The Fang 1B design was scrapped for many reasons, not the least of which was the inability of the copter to manitain formation while dealing with the recoil from the cannon fire. The loading system was prone to jamming and could not easily be purged without landing.

None the less, the 1B was an idea ahead of its time, and represented a leap forward in gyro-copter design. 20 Fang 1B's currently exist, but may not be ceritfied fit for flight.
