Peters is a really common name and the name Charles Thomas is a
common family name so I may not be who you think I am. :-) There especially are
a lot of Peters' here in Morgan County in Georgia. Some are relatives though
they may deny it and some aren't. My granddad used to say some weren't kin but
when my sister started doing the family tree she discovered they were. I
suppose it made it easier to find dates as long as he didn't consider 3rd
cousins kin in the rural south.
Granddad Harvey's father was named Charlie and his father was named
Henry and his father was named John.
Some family history:
Henry was born in 1819. At some point he went to Texas. My
granddad was not aware that Henry was born in Georgia. All granddad knew was
that at some point Henry came from Texas to Georgia with William Shepherd on a
two horse wagon drawn by two mules and a third mule in back. William was my
grandmother's (Mattie Lou Shepherd's) grandfather. On coming to Georgia, or
returning as the case was, Henry married 16 year old Almeda Conner and William
Shepherd married her older sister Lucy Conner. (William Shepherd's first wife
died and he married a third Conner sister.)
Time Line Perspective of Henry's Life:
Henry was 7 when the Creek Indians sold the last of their land in
the Hard Labor Creek Area of Georgia and they moved to Arkansas. (1826)
He was 15 when Andrew Jackson sent 7,000 troops into Georgia
under Winfield Scott to drive the Cherokee out of Georgia and force them into
Oklahoma. (1834)
He was 19 at the time of the Trail of Tears. (1838)
He was two when Stephen F. Austin established the 1st
Ango-American settlement in Texas. (1821)
He was 17 when Texas won Independence from Mexico. (1836)
He was 29 when Texas joined the Union. (1845)
He was 42 when the American Civil War started. (1861)
He was 43 when he married Almeda Conner (1862) here in
Georgia.
Henry died when his son Charlie, my granddad's father, was 10
years old.
