New at the Club
April 6, 2003

The Club of Queer Trades has been revived; its members have grown to tolerate the weather, and have roused themselves from their residences to meet occasionally at the Club. In response to several e-mails- no, there isn't ever much news to report from the Club (it's a pretty peaceful club).

Only one noteworthy item: many recent applications for membership left at the Club have been rejected on the basis that the applicant's trade is not new, or it cannot fully support the applicant. Almost all clubs have conditions for membership, as does the Club of Queer Trades. If we accepted everyone, regardless of trade, we should not be worthy of our name.

Not much is happening at the Club these days; most of its members are hibernating and won't make their appearances until spring. However, some good news for those still awake: one of the people behind the Club is currently working on a project a propos Chesterton and his friend George Bernard Shaw. Shaw and Chesterton debated vigorously over politics (namely socialism), but remained admirers of each other and were known to be the best of friends (it was Shaw that said Chesterton had "colossal genius"). This industrious club member is hoping to post most, if not all, of the project on this very site in a few months. For those interested- watch this page for more updates.
