Happy times - Charles Franklin photographed at the Indian factory in Springfield, Mass., in the mid-1920s  when at the height of his powers as Indian Chief Designer and Engineer.
This photo, published in Jeff Clew's book, shows him as a young man at twenty-six years of age.  He was by this time already one of Britain's foremost motorcycle racers, as evidenced by his selection for the 1905 and 1906 International Cup teams, and by the fact that he was receiving JAP factory support (they built this racer for him).
Franklin first made his name in Irish hill-climbs and sand races, from 1903 onwards.
