| Franklin at The Fork of Brooklands Track in 1914, seated on the eight-valve racer that apparently later passed to Bert Le Vack for 1920-21. This is the occasion of setting a new ten mile standing start record at 77.95mph. Note that only Franklin's machine is a race bike - the others are all streetable Indians - and only Franklin is dressed for fast riding. Fellow Indian racer Oliver Godfrey is also present (on Franklin's left) but appears to be in a supporting role. The tall chap in the middle is Indian's UK importer and racing sponsor Billy Wells. Seated in the sidecar is A.V. "Ebby" Ebblewhite, the official Brooklands starter and time-keeper. [Page 4] |
