| Although Herbert Le Vack managed a radiant winner's smile, most of the riders were thoroughly exhausted from the physical battering, from long crouching in one position, and from noise, and the general verdict was "Stiffer than the TT". Even so, "Carbon" of Motor-Cycling, enthused, saying "The 500 Miles Race at Brooklands was brim-full of interest, and I don't think there is much doubt but we shall find it established as an annual event ranking only second in importance, perhaps, to the TT."
But it was not to be. Silencers were not, of course, in use then at the track, and many local residents were affronted at almost a whole Saturday's continuous noise from numerous rorty singles and twins circulating en masse. They lodged so vehement a protest that the BMCRC was not permitted to repeat their enterprising 500 Miles race in subsequent years: some manufacturers and riders were not perhaps too sorry, but it was a great race lost.
