| Hawaiian Lomi Lomi is the physiotherapy of the ancient Hawaiians, brought with them from their homelands in the Southern Polynesia. Lomi Lomi was passed from generation to generation through Kahuna or priestly ties. Hawaiian Lomi Lomi consists of three main principles, Pule/prayer Ho'oponopono/to release and forgive before the Sun sets each day Aloha/the loving touch A Lomi Lomi session always begins with Pule/prayer. One must make direct contact with Ka Makualani/the heavenly Father, to ask for heavens help in doing the work and for the healing of the client. Before, during, or after a Lomi Lomi session, the client must empty from their heart all anger, jelousy, envy, hatred, unforgiveness, and any other emotions that cause stress, before the sun sets. Hawaiian Lomi Lomi has many different techniques of massage. Every stroke is done to help the client heal spirit, soul and body. "Auntie" Margaret Machado, who teaches at Captain Cook on the Kona Coast of the Big Island in Hawaii, is currently the only authentic Hawaiian kuhuna licensed by the Sate of Hawaii to train therapists under state requirements. According to Auntie margaret, the Hawaiian word lomi lomi means going to and fro or "to work in and out, as the claws of a contented cat. Lomi Lomi is a loving touch. When they feel hands on their body, they'll respond, she loves me, she'll take good care of me, and I am going to get well." Lomi Lomi must be done with Aloha/loving touch, because Auntie Margaret says, "if your hands are gentle and loving, the client will feel the sincerety of your heart, their soul will reach out to yours, and God's healing will flow through both of you." Alo=divine presence, Ha=the breath of life. When we love God, others and ourselves, we breath the very breath of God Himself. Lomi Lomi has been called "a dance". What that means is instead of using arms to rub the muscles, the whole body is used. The movement starts from the feet up to the hips and through the arms. The hands stay completely relaxed. At the finish of each section of the body, a feather light touch is used in long flowing strokes. Auntie Margaret says, "Make nice". |
