| Charlemagne had many accomplishments during his time. He was well known for significant deveolments in law, and recognized the importance of education. He used his army and his own planning to double the size of the Frankish Empire. During Charlemagne's time, the Church played a very significant role. In order for Charlemagne to continue expanding his kingdom the church would support him and his actions because he spread Christianity. He also discovered the monastic libraries which became centers for study of literature. He was important to history because he was the one who blended the Roman civilization, Christianity and the Germanic Traditions togeter. He also recognized the need for education therefore, creating libraries and copying the manuscripts. He also led the conquest of Iberia, which then led to decrease of furthur spread of Islam. Charlemagne also won over northern Italy, and left central Italy to be taken are of by the church. He also rescured Leo, which he was known for, and then was rewarded for by wearing the crown. He established schools to educate people. Manuals for preaching were also introduced. His focus on education had a number of benefits, it provided a pool of educated people who could help administer the empire. During Charlemagne's reign a new form of handwriting was developed called Carolingian Minuscule. |
