THE USUHS RUGBY TEAM

USUHS, stands for Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.  Long story cut short: When I first came to D.C., one of my friends always used to tell me how fun it was to play rugby. I played a little football in the past, so he encouraged me to come out. I practiced a few times (not fun), then I got to play a little in a B side game. (Mucho enjoyment).  Ever since, I've been hooked. It's kinda like football, but play never stops and there are no forward passes. So it consists of the two things I liked about football, the running and the hitting. Now, I play Flanker (Wing Forward) for them, which is like the roving linebacker/inside runner in football terms. The three years have gone by quickly.  I've met new friends, had some great times, and played in some great games. The sport has been definitely worth my time, and I encourage you to find a team in your area. At the very least, it is entertaining to watch.

San Diego trip (Military Nationals)
At the end of the 2000 spring season, the USUHS rugby team left to SD to compete in the US Military Nationals. We lost in the Semi-finals to the home team (Big Cheaters), but crushed them so badly they were dead for the finals. Also, we had the bright Idea of dieing our hair Plat. Blond (I had a hell of a time dieing it back.). At one of the bars, we convinced the locals that we were the US Olympic Rugby Team. They gave us drinks, put one of our jerseys on the wall, and some girls cheered "Good Luck in Sydney" as we left. Not bad for four days, eh?
