Learning the Language
Good wine can be enjoyed and appreciated without saying a word. But if you want to explain to someone else why you love a particular wine, it’s helpful to be familiar with the language. e.g. you might say that a Cabernet Sauvignon smells pleasantly of ripe currants and tobacco. There aren’t actually currants or tobacco. Rather, you are expressing yourself.
Taking Memorable Notes
“Tasting” can mean anything from a simple sip to serious palate analysis. Taking successful notes is merely a matter of deciding whether you like what you taste, akin to the old adage, “I may not know anything about art, but I know what I like.” Just note what is it about the flavors that make the wine appealing or unappealing.
