Rincewind first appears in The Colour of Magic as a failed wizard who is hired by twoflower to be his guide. While working hard to keep Twoflower alive, Rincewind is involved in many adventures. He witnesses Ankh-Morpork, the city he calls home, being set alight in a bungled insurance fraud attempt. He is captured by a witch who controls imaginary, but still very dangerous, dragons. Falls off the end of the world. And finally saves the planet from destruction by a huge star. He then reappears in Sorcery where he saves the world from the denizens of the Dungeon Dimensions after a Sorcerer called Coin has caused the wizards of the Discworld to fight each other in a magical war. In Eric, Rincewind finds himself summoned from hell by a thirteen year old boy who tries to get Rincewind to grant him some wishes. In Interesting Times Rincewind finds himself on the counter-weight continent where he helps Cohen the Barbarian and his Horde conquer the Agatean Empire. Rincewind then finds himself transported to the continent ‘xxxx’, a continent whose main distinction is that it never rains. Here he gets arrested for sheep rustling and is thus made a national hero, meets a distance relative, and discovers a way to make it rain. After all this he then returns to the Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork where he takes up the lowly position of assistant librarian. It is here that he volunteers (albeit unwillingly) to be Egregious Professor of Cruel and Unusual Geography. This involves putting on a suit which projects him into a different universe where he oversees the development of spherical planet.
