Mustrum Ridcully is appointed Archchancellor of the Unseen University in Moving Pictures. He dislikes all paper work, which he delegates to the Bursar, and enjoys hunting all categories of living creatures above all else. Ridcully is supported in his running of the University by the faculty. This includes the Dean, Ponder Stibbons, the Librarian (who, as a result of a magical accident, is an orang-utan), The Chair of Indefinite Studies, The Lecturer in Recent Runes, and the Senior Wrangler. He deals with all situations by asking questions and then ignoring the answers. His response to a saying ‘do not open this door’ is to open the door to find out why he shouldn’t open it. His habit of accrediting any ailments to a lack of exercise and fresh air, and prescribing large amounts of these as a remedy has reduced the Bursar (a man with only a tenuous grip on sanity at the best of times) to a bag of nerves. However, Ridcully has retained his position far longer than the majority of his predecessors by means of a simple strategy; he is simply too hard to assassinate. (This being the traditional way of advancement among wizards)
