"Remembrance"
It's fond remembrance of my youth,
Simplicity to the core.
I loved Her far horizons,
While playing by Her shore.

Summer holidays in the countryside,
A quaint cottage on a stream,
Picking heather on the walks I took,
Seems like a Dickens dream.

Too often grey clouds filled Her skies,
Many days could seem quite dreary.
Never ending rains would pour,
Making this "busy" child feel weary.

But all in all the laughter flowed,
With many friends, my chums and all.
My simple village family life,
There to help me whenever I'd fall.

Now as I recall all those years ago,
I left with tears, but a new life begun.
And though I found where I belong,
I will cherish my childhood in Brighton.
