RL250 part 2, "the end"
Well, I have finially gotten around to updating the restoration of my RL250. Following the dismantalling of the bike, the frame was repaired by advanced welding products in Pelham, Alabama, then sand blasted and painted with silver auto paint, followed by with several coats of clear coat for protection. While the Frame was being repaired, Bronze swing arm bushes were ordered from B&J racing in Tn. and we began to rebuild the motor. As you can see from the photos on this page, the motor was badly in need of new bearings. We lucked out on the condition of the transmission. (See photos) The gears and internal parts were in good shape and just needed some TLC. Note that this motor was completely rebuilt both top and bottom ends including new bearings, seals, and rod kit.
As anyone who has ridden the RL250 can tell you, in stock trim, the motor does not like to creep along at idle. The Suzuki was ahead of it's time in that matter, with a fast reving motor.(most modern bikes have similar motor traits) In order to correct this trait, I have added a brass fly wheel weight made for me by Bob Ginder at B&J Racing in Dickson Tn. (see photo) I rode this bike for the 1st time on December 2, at the AHRMA trial in Millersville Alabama and can tell you that with the fly wheel weight in place, the RL will crawl at idle forever and is happy as a clam doing it.
As you can see from the photos on this page and "RL photo page 3" The bike came out better than I could ever have expected. I hope you enjoy the photos, (check out the frame on the work bench, that is our Honda MT250 that we are now restoring, as well as a 1974 XR75.) We will be posting before and after photos of the XR75 on this web site soon.
Also, you will be able to order Chapter 11 T-shirts and Jerseys in the near future.
Come back soon & often. Be sure to check with our sponsors pages for all your part needs.
Also, I want to thank Bob Ginder, at B&J Racing, for without his help none of this would have been completed.
And More Importantly, I want to thank my wife, Vickie, for putting up with me and allowing me to bring all these old bikes and parts home & go racing.

Hoping you keep your feet up,

Pete
