WAITING FOR THE CHOPPER 17
He laid in my arms, waiting for the chopper
His whole life behind him, waiting for the chopper
Asked me if he'd make it, waiting for the chopper
A "sure" reply, knowing I'd lied, waiting for the chopper
Two mud Marines, one wishing I was mom, waiting for the chopper
The other wishing that lie came true, waiting for the chopper.
For some in my arms, only I was waiting for the chopper.
For others I don't know their faith, waiting for the chopper.
Today I still listen for the sound of the chopper.
Knowing that for some it was the greatest sound they heard.
For others, myself included it's the saddest sound I still hear.
For not knowing the end for both of us, I'm still waiting for the
chopper!
