My primary bass is a Yamaha BBG5 bass with a quilted orange-burst finish and matching headstock. I use Ernie Ball Super-Slinky 45 guage strings.
I have a Gallien-Kruegger 700 series head. This head is used by artists such as Flea, Tom Hamilton, Tony Kanal, Matt Freeman, and Ron Carter.
For a cab, I use an Ampeg SVT-410HE cab. This is the same cab used by artists such as Les Claypool, Fieldy, Robbie Takac, Robert Trujillo, Tom Kennedy, and Tom Araya.
I find that the head and the cab combined give me an incredible low end that can handle both smooth and punchy lines without compromising the quality and volume of higher end lines. Since we play in Drop C tuning, it was difficult to find an amp that could handle such a low sound, but this combination works nicely.
