What exactly are Chao anyway? Chao (A-Life) are the little things you see on these pages. They started way back in the days of the unpopular Sega console, The Saturn. A very good game (probably one of the only good ones on that platform!) called Nights into Dreams, introduced these Chao. I don't know anything about the "Saturn" Chao. If anyone has some information, please email me via the link on the home page.
They next sprang up in Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast in 1999. You had to raise a virtual pet that came in a variety of colors. (There's the normal Chao you know and love, but also some secret colored Chao. More on that in the Special Chao page.) These Chao also could be put against each other in Chao Races. Basically the prime of the Chao raising business. You could get emblems, needed to complete Sonic Adventure. You could also take it for a walk on your VMU. (Visual Memory Card) Chao Adventure was a long, typical virtual pet game. But you could play mini-games to increase your Chao's stats, Beat up Bully Chao for special nuts, Open treasure chests or meet up with a Sonic character for nuts too. If you were a fan of the dreaded Tamagotchi, you'd luv this!
And they're back in the quite new Sonic Adventure 2. They're a lot more interactive than before! If that Chao liked you, it would play if you picked it up. If it hated you, it would fidgit around and cry. Chao races are a lot harder as well, but a lot more rewarding with special prizes! The Chao Adventure 2 game is a lot more like an RPG than Chao Adventure. You also have a Chao Kindergarden where your Chao can learn special things. (Dance, Play the Trumpet, etc)
All in all, Chao are the very cute, very sociable and probably the best Virtual Pet you'll ever come across, don't waste money on other Virtual pet things like Neopets, (R) If you have loadsa batteries at the ready, do this instead, its more rewarding! |
