A hobbit wrote in his red book

The road between them but a line

O'er state and county, lake and brook

Through miles of land and seas of time

They call each other's names again

They feel each other's thoughts and rhyme

The love she gives but not returned

His lonely life, though not alone

Reflects within his love that burns

Their hearts cry out for them to meet

Their souls reach forth to search and roam

Their heads, alas, though know such sweet

Might kill a life, a house, a home.

Their stories, poems, words so sweet

They help them both to walk their walk

And then they part with lover's kiss

They're back to kids and house and wife

The night of love and life and bliss

That gives their love a chance at life.
