"To A Friend"

What could I say that would not sound trite?
That you pulled me from a pit and made me see the light?
That when my life was lowest, filled with despair
My burdens were lightened because you took a share?

No "thank you" could tell you what you did for me,
So I'll write it down here and hope that you see
Through the words, overused, that I try to make new,
To the simplicity of meaning - I love you.
