Colour Moving and Still Sony ***
Once the most heinous of angst queens (her "God Made Me" remains utterly unforgivable), Chantal Kreviazuk hasn't washed all the Alanis from her hair, but some affectingly sombre ambiance and celestial production flourishes ultimately save Colour Moving and Still from her more overwrought tendencies. Compared to her fellow Lilith fairies, Chantal's not as flaky as Tori, as didactic as Ani or as wispy as Sarah, however, there's also nothing here that's distinctly Chantal (Colour's best song, the ghostly "Until We Die," is a bang-on Beth Orton). An undeniably ambitious step forward, though still closer to Dawson's Creek soundtrack fodder than high art. (Chantal Kreviazuk plays Mississauga's Living Arts Centre Saturday.)
